TAILANDIA ENCUENTRA A DOS SOBREVIVIENTES DEL NAUFRAGIO DE BUQUE DE LA ARMADA
El primer ministro Prayuth Chan-ocha dijo que había encargado a su viceministro de Defensa que visitara el martes a los marineros supervivientes.
Los equipos de rescate encontraron a dos supervivientes y recuperaron cuatro cadáveres de un buque de guerra tailandés que se hundió el fin de semana en el Golfo de Tailandia, según informaron el martes fuentes oficiales de la Marina, mientras se desvanecían las esperanzas de encontrar a las más de dos docenas de personas que siguen desaparecidas. Los oficiales reconocieron que no había suficientes chalecos salvavidas para todos los que iban a bordo.
El HTMS Sukhothai, una corbeta en servicio desde hace 35 años, se hundió el domingo por la noche en medio de un mar embravecido con 105 personas a bordo. Setenta y cinco personas fueron rescatadas el lunes por la tarde, por lo que quedaban 30 en paradero desconocido. La Marina declaró que el anterior recuento de 106 personas a bordo era incorrecto porque un marinero no se incorporó al viaje.
El comandante de la Marina, almirante Cherngchai Chomcherngpat, anunció la recuperación de los supervivientes y los cadáveres en una conferencia de prensa en Bangkok.
El último superviviente, identificado como Chananyu Kansriya, fue hallado flotando en el mar sobre las 14.00 horas del martes y fue recogido por un carguero que pasaba por allí, según el centro de coordinación de salvamento de la marina en Bangsaphan, en la provincia de Prachuap Khiri Khan, cerca del lugar del accidente. Una fragata de la armada lo estaba llevando de vuelta a tierra.
El vicealmirante Pichai Lorchusakul, comandante del 1er Mando de Área Naval, declaró a la prensa que Chananyu se encontraba en estado débil y que recibiría tratamiento médico en la fragata, que cuenta con instalaciones similares a las de un hospital móvil.
El periódico Thai Rath lo citó diciendo que se habían acelerado los esfuerzos de búsqueda, pero que no se podía esperar que el desaparecido sobreviviera en el mar más de dos días.
La marina ha desplegado cuatro grandes barcos, dos aviones de patrulla marítima, dos helicópteros y un dron, y la fuerza aérea ha contribuido con un avión y un helicóptero. No se pudieron utilizar embarcaciones pequeñas porque el mar seguía extremadamente picado, dijeron los oficiales de la marina.
La búsqueda se está desplazando gradualmente hacia el sur para tener en cuenta las corrientes, declaró a la televisión tailandesa PBS el capitán Kraipich Korawee-Paparwit, comandante de uno de los barcos de rescate.
Los fuertes vientos y el fuerte oleaje provocaron la entrada de agua de mar en el barco el domingo por la noche, dejando fuera de servicio su sistema eléctrico y haciendo prácticamente imposible el control de la nave. Otros buques de la marina acudieron al lugar, a unas 20 millas de la costa, para intentar ayudar al buque siniestrado, pero no pudieron hacer gran cosa debido a las malas condiciones del mar. Al no poder controlar el barco, entró más agua, lo que hizo que se escorara y se hundiera.
Pocas horas antes del accidente, el Departamento Meteorológico de Tailandia había emitido un aviso meteorológico para la zona en el que se preveían olas en el Golfo de Tailandia de entre 7 y 14 pies de altura. Sugirió que todos los barcos "procedieran con precaución" y advirtió a las embarcaciones pequeñas que no salieran al mar hasta el martes.
Los supervivientes entrevistados por la televisión tailandesa dijeron que no había suficientes chalecos salvavidas porque el barco transportaba invitados además de su tripulación normal, que según el sitio web de la marina era de 87 marineros y oficiales.
El comandante de la marina Cherngchai confirmó que era cierto en declaraciones a la televisión PPTV.
"En esta operación, añadieron personal del Cuerpo de Marines y del Mando de Defensa Aérea y Costera, unas 30 personas. Por eso creo que no había suficientes chalecos salvavidas", afirmó.
Un video del vicealmirante Pichai hablando el martes en uno de los centros de rescate lo mostró confrontado con una mujer que dijo ser la madre de uno de los marineros desaparecidos.
"Mi hijo me llamó con el teléfono de su amigo cuando el barco empezó a hundirse. Me dijo que no le habían dado chaleco salvavidas y que solo le habían dado una boya salvavidas. Como padre, cuando me enteré, se me rompió el corazón. Si no había suficientes chalecos salvavidas, ¿cuánta esperanza puede darme?", dijo.
El primer ministro Prayuth Chan-ocha dijo que había encargado a su viceministro de Defensa que visitara el martes a los marineros supervivientes.
"Nadie quiere que esto ocurra", dijo Prayuth, ex comandante del ejército que también es ministro de Defensa. "Investigaremos la causa y no dejaremos que vuelva a ocurrir".
