Bancamiga lleva a Belkis Garcia al Mundial de OCR: “El limite esta en tu mente”
Hace 33 años, la profesional de la educación estuvo cerca de la muerte, durante un accidente que la dejó con quemaduras en el 75% de su cuerpo. Este 24 de agosto competirá por Venezuela en una carrera de 15K con 50 obstáculos, en Costa Rica.
Por su resiliencia y capacidad de lucha, Belkis García protagonizó en tiempos recientes uno de los capítulos de la serie audiovisual de Bancamiga Historias Repetibles. Esta venezolana, deportista y educadora se vio involucrada en 1991 en un accidente de tránsito, cuando una gandola impactó con el carro donde iba con unos amigos.
Recordó que el vehículo cayó por un abismo y se incendió, lo que le ocasionó quemaduras en el 75% ciento de su cuerpo. Perdió los dedos de la mano derecha y el antebrazo de la mano izquierda. Nada de eso le impidió seguir trabajando por sus sueños y este sábado 24 de agosto verá cumplido uno más, cuando en la hacienda Doka de Costa Rica salga a representar a Venezuela en el mundial de OCR (carrera de obstáculos).
“Hay una frase que siempre tengo muy presente: el límite está en tu mente. Me gusta la competitividad y estar en este mundial, enfrentando a rivales de otros países, es una forma ver hasta dónde soy capaz de llegar”.
García, quien viaja al Mundial con el apoyo de Bancamiga, explicó que el OCR es una disciplina deportiva en la cual los participantes deben superar obstáculos en un recorrido determinado, que en su caso será de 15 kilómetros.
De acuerdo con la página oficial, el evento se realizará entre el 22 y el 25 de agosto, en dos sedes: en el estadio nacional de Costa Rica, ubicado en la ciudad de San José, y en la hacienda Doka, en la provincia de Alajuela, a unos 36 kilómetros de la capital.
García: “Bancamiga es lo mejor que me ha pasado”
Para esta educadora será “una experiencia maravillosa” y “estoy llena de expectativas porque competiré en la categoría OCR Adaptado con rivales de distintos países”.
“En el trayecto debemos superar 50 obstáculos como paredes, cargar objetos pesados, trepar cuerdas, mover cauchos o arrastrarse. Creo que lo más difícil de esta competencia es la diversidad de obstáculos y su alto nivel de exigencia”, indicó García, docente del liceo María Auxiliadora, en Corralito, El Hatillo, quien también da tareas dirigidas a jóvenes de escasos recursos en el Encuentro Hatillano.
El Presidente de la Junta Directiva de Bancamiga, José Simón Elarba, expresó que la presencia de García en el Mundial de Costa Rica reafirma la importancia que para la institución tiene impulsar casos de éxito que inspiren a otros a luchar por lo que anhelan, a pesar de las adversidades que en la vida puedan enfrentar.
“En Bancamiga estamos seguros de que en el Mundial pondrá muy en alto el tricolor nacional”, agregó Elarba.
García sostuvo que el apoyo ofrecido por Bancamiga tanto a ella y como a su entrenador, Jhon Hidalgo, ha sido fundamental, porque de otra forma “jamás hubiese sido posible participar” en esta competencia.
“Contar con el respaldo de Bancamiga es lo mejor que me ha pasado”, añadió esta atleta que entrena en las instalaciones de la Universidad Simón Bolívar en Sartenejas y que volverá este sábado “a probarme a mí misma”.
